Specialists of the nuclear fleet

In the training and training center of the Murmansk Shipping Company's nuclear fleet (Leningrad), a full-scale simulator for the training and retraining of watch mechanics, electricians and operators of nuclear power plants of shallow-seated icebreakers of the Taimyr type has been put into operation. The simulator is manufactured and installed by specialists of the Finnish company "Afora".

Currently, in addition to the above, other simulators are functioning in the Training and Training Center: "Neva" - for specialists of the control and measuring instruments and automation service (Instrumentation and automation) for the information and digital complex "Polyus—S"; "Mars" - for operators of a steam-producing installation (PPU) and specialists of instrumentation and control systems and protection of the Mars-type reactor; "France" — for specialists of all services for the radiation control system "Lanthanum".

At the end of this year, it is planned to put into operation a full-scale simulator MGA-21 for watch mechanics, electricians and operators of nuclear power plants of icebreakers of the "Russia" type and a simulator for operators of the control equipment and specialists of the instrumentation and control services of these icebreakers.

The training center of the nuclear fleet, in addition, is equipped with a set of personal computers for preliminary training of personnel of nuclear vessels according to special programs before classes on full-scale simulators.

Training and retraining of specialists of nuclear vessels in the Training and Training Center will contribute to improving the level of safety during the operation of the marine nuclear icebreaker fleet.

American cadets on board a Soviet sailboat

In June, an ocean-going three-masted sailing frigate with the symbolic name "Friendship" went on an unusual voyage. In addition to sixty Soviet cadets, their colleagues from the USA, cadets of American maritime colleges, went on a voyage on this training and production vessel of the Odessa Higher Marine Engineering School (OVIMU). This joint practice of future commanders of the merchant fleet is being conducted for the first time in the history of relations between the two countries. Working hand in hand on the yards, carrying round-the-clock watches, overcoming the waves of the seas and oceans, Soviet and American trainees should fully comprehend the hard sea work, join it.

The Soviet sailboat will visit Baltimore, New York, Boston, and other American ports, calling in Western European countries along the way.

— Meetings and discussions of teachers and students of OVIMU with colleagues from maritime academies and colleges of a number of states are planned overseas, — said the captain of the frigate K. Kremlyansky. — The parties have developed a draft agreement on cooperation in the field of training navigators, mechanics, and other specialists for the merchant fleet of both states.

The sponsors of the four-month voyage of "Friendship" were the Black Sea Shipping Company and the American company "Odessa Marine and Aviation", representing the maritime and business circles of the United States interested in the development of diverse ties with our country.
